Gillian Petersen
BSc (Hons) PgD ATP CACC Addictions Counsellor
My educational background includes neuropsychology and gender studies, with a specialization in addictions treatment and prevention. This, paired with my lived experience and family history with substance misuse and mental health hardships, enhances my knowledge of the development of both behavioural and substance addictions. Additionally, I have eight years of experience in community pharmacy settings, with first-hand therapeutic knowledge of various psychiatric medications and opioid-agonist therapies. I utilize a client-centred approach, focusing on meeting clients where they’re at, as I do not believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to counselling. Every client and their experiences are unique, and I tailor my approach accordingly. I am passionate about maintaining authenticity, and fostering welcoming, anti-oppressive, inclusive environments with clients and colleagues. Alongside my clinical work, I am pursuing a Master’s Degree in Social Work.
